Annual Fireman's Dinner 2018
Tue, Nov 6th, 2018 6:00:00 pm- Last night the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Company hosted the 115th annual fireman's dinner, formerly known as the duck supper.

It was called the duck supper because when it first started, members of the department would go out duck hunting. They would bring the ducks back where their wives would clean and cook them. Then they would all sit around and have a big meal with the main dish being duck.

Times have changed since then and the dinner has been catered in or cooked in house. This year's dinner consisted of turkey and roast beef with all the fixin's. The dinner was cooked by our own Captain happy Dan Collins. Thank you Dan, everything was wonderful.

Members from the past and present gathered around to talk, fellowship and of course reminisce about the old days. Pictures from the past were laid out on tables so past and present members could look through them and see the department's history. Everyone enjoyed seeing the newest fire family members: two new babies from two of our current members. We also had two new pieces of equipment on display, we acquired through a Scott County regional authority grant: a new gear washer, called an "extractor" and a new gear dryer.

Thank you everyone for coming out. We look forward to seeing you next year for the 116th.
